• For Volunteers

Hospice relies on volunteers. In fact, volunteers are the backbone of the hospice team and have been the roots from which hospice has grown for hundreds of years. Volunteers may serve in many ways: providing companionship, connecting family to our community, providing hands on patient care, running errands, helping with household chores, or doing behind the scenes work with our administrative team.

Volunteer Opportunities

The support our volunteers provide greatly enhances the quality of patient’s lives in our community. To the patients and their families our volunteers make a significant difference in their end of life experiences.  As a member of our hospice volunteer family, you will embark on an unforgettable journey of compassion, inspiration and friendship.

Volunteering takes no advanced medical training or great time commitment. It can be as simple as reading to, or spending time with a patient a few hours a week or assisting with errands to help a tired family member cope with the many challenges they face.

There are many roles for a Hospice of Missoula volunteer to use their unique skills and interests to benefit others.

We will place you where your schedule and interests are best used. We’ll also thoroughly train and support you in your volunteer role. Training is conducted on the third Thursday of each month from 9am to 3pm. Special arrangments for training may be arranged.

We invite you to open your heart and become a Hospice of Missoula volunteer, where you can changes someone’s life – and yours.

How do I Become a Hospice Volunteer?

It is a lot like applying for a job. An interview is the first step. Here you will meet our volunteer coordinator and they will ask you some simple questions. Why do you want to be a volunteer?  What are your skills, interests? What times are you available? What is your experience with end- of-life and education surrounding this topic? The coordinator may also want a resume and a list of references.

Training comes next. Hospice of Missoula provides quarterly volunteer orientation and training classes, as well as intermittent individual trainings. At the end of your volunteer training you will be able to work with our volunteer coordinator to decide together when, where, and what your volunteering will look like to best suit your desire to serve, and the needs of our community.

Hospice of Missoula’s volunteers bring light and love into people’s lives.  You can learn more about how to volunteer by emailing our volunteer coordinator at info@hospiceofmissoula.com. Please include your phone number in your e-mail. We look forward to meeting you!
