• Advanced Illness

Hospice of Missoula believes in giving you the important option of how to live with an advancing illness in your own way.

Every day we see how hospice improves the lives of those we care about while reducing stress and worry for those who love them.

Yet, when considering hospice care, there are often many questions.  Making the best decision for you and for your family begins with an understanding of the role hospice can play in your life, and in the life of your loved ones.  We are here to help you understand the hospice choices available to you and what choosing hospice really means.

When the goal becomes about the quality of life, we can help you discover how hospice can help you refocus on living life to the fullest by controlling pain, managing symptoms, and empowering you with choices, control, and dignity.

Hospice of Missoula offers peace of mind, because we begin our care with four simple words; “What do you want?” and we will tailor our care to support your goals and wishes.

If you still have questions please give us a call, we are here to provide answers and to help you make an informed decision.

It is perfectly ok to talk to your doctor about hospice and to ask for a referral if you feel like hospice is the right choice for you or your family.  Hospice is available to anyone with a life limiting illness, and can become a choice when you decide it is time to focus on improving the quality of time that remains.

If you would like, we can speak with your physician for you. Remember, hospice is your choice to make.

Who Pays for Hospice?

Hospice care is a 100% covered benefit under Medicare, Medicaid and most private pay insurances.

We can verify coverage for the family and can assist with the Medicaid application process if necessary.

Arrangements will be made for those in need of assistance using Hospice of Missoula’s charitable care and by uniting with local community-based organizations who share our dedication to hospice care.

No patient will be turned away based on their ability to pay for hospice services.

Hospice as a Choice

Hospice is often the choice when you and your doctor have decided to investigate new goals outside of aggressive treatment. Usually this is when your life expectancy is no longer measured in many years, but rather in months to a year.  This is when the focus becomes your quality of life.  Many say hospice is about hope. The hope for living in comfort and the ability to truly live life to the fullest, with all of the love and joy that still remains.

The decision to choose Hospice of Missoula as your hospice provider can be made by you, your physician, and you family.

You choose the hospice provider that you want to choose. It is your journey, and importantly your choice of who will walk beside you during this time.

Hospice is all about choice. We will tailor our care to be directed by you and focused on who you are as an individual with your goals and wishes in the drivers seat. Even your choice to remain on hospice is just that, a choice. You may choose to withdraw from hospice care at any time to seek medical treatment that may become available.

In fact, research shows that many individuals actually live longer with the improved quality of life hospice can provide. Maybe that is because patients with hospice care are more likely to receive better symptom management, practical day-to-day support, emotional support, and spiritual support.

Hospice of Missoula really is here for you: celebrating your life, honoring your wishes, and supporting your family.

How Hospice Can Support a Family

We understand that this journey cannot be traveled alone… your family and friends are part of it as well.  As your loved ones continue an active role in caring for you, we will make sure the journey is not just yours.  They will have the full support of our team from expert nursing care and certified nurse’s aids who will help with the daily caregiving, to our interdenominational chaplain and social workers who specialize in bereavement, grief,  and counseling.

Imagine a team of people dedicated to providing the best care possible while ensuring no one in your family feels they are facing this life circumstance alone.

Beyond supporting them in their caregiving role, Hospice of Missoula is also here to help your family cope with the impact of caring for a loved one with a serious illness.  We are not only centered on how you are doing, but on how the family is as well.

If they just need someone to talk to, a shoulder to lean on, or life changing questions of spirituality – we are here to help.

We will be there for any challenging days ahead, helping you and your family through grief, offering support, and by lending assistance while loved ones learn to adjust and heal.
